Self guided Hikes, snowshoe trails and cross country ski trails
MacIntyre River walk. A nice walk on paved paths along side the MacIntyre river, starting behind Shopers Drugmart on Memorial. Follow the paths northward along the river through Confederation college and onto paths leading to Lakehead university.

Mills Block. An easy 4K walk close to town. This hike is dog friendly. The trailhead is located on John street road approximately 5K from the Valley street intersection.

Hazelwood Conservation area. A beautiful conservation area only 45 minutes from County Fair Plaza. Situated on beautiful Hazelwood Lake there are two trails, one is 1.8K and the other is 2.2k. The trailhead is at the end of Hazelwood drive 14K from Dawson rd.

Wishart Conservation area. Another smaller forest block conservation area with a 2.2k easy walking trail. The trailhead is on Onion Lake road approximately 10k from Wardrope Ave.

Kamview Nordic Snow Shoe Trails. These snow shoe trails are part of the Kamview Nordic Center located on the twentieth sideroad about 1k from Hwy. 61. There are 10 trails here from .9k to 4.4k in length.

Kakabeka Falls Provincial park cross country ski trails.
This park offers excellent groomed trails from 3.8k to 8k. The shorter 3.8 is rated easy but the longer trails are rated difficult.The trail head is located on Hwy. 590 1k from Hwy 11/17 just past the village of Kakabeka Falls.

Tapiola ski and Nature.
The Tapiola ski and Nature offer 3.5k of groomed tails. These trails are very easy for the novice or first time skier. They offer a daily ski pass for $10. To access the trails take Government road off Dawson approximately 1k west to Pento road, turning left. The Field house is located a few hundred meters down this road.

Kingfisher Outdoor Education Center
The Lakehead Public Schools owns this beautiful property on Kingfisher lake. It's main purpose is to provide an unique facility offering curriculum linked experiential education.
A public Hiking trail called the Partner's trail is part of this fascility. The trail is 4.3k in length and is rated as easy-intermediate. The trailhead is located 20k north of highway 11/17 on highway 527.
